Danny Lasoski won the World of Outlaws feature on the first night of the Sprint Winter Nationals at East Bay Raceway late Friday in Gibsonton.
"We come down to Florida for a little vacation and to do some testing," said his crew chief, Jimmy Carr. "The Florida tracks are usually a little sandy and we can't apply what we learn to the rest of the country, but we can use a lot of what we are trying with setups."
From fourth place, Lasoski got by Kelly Kinser and Jimmy Nier on Lap 11 of 25 and passed Jason Meyers in Turn 2 for the lead for good on Lap 14. Myers was second, followed by Chad Kemenah, Kinser and Nier.
For the fourth time in six seasons, Lasoski finished second in World of Outlaws points last year. His car is owned by former sprint car driver and 2002 Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart. Lasoski, the 2001 WoO series champion won nine "A" features in 2004, including his third Knoxville Nationals championship in August.
In April, he also won in the International Race of Champions series at Texas, becoming only the second driver representing short-track, open-wheel racing to do so. He and fellow sprint-car driver Steve Kinser, the other sprint car driver to win in IROC, will compete in that series again this year.
There was a second WoO feature at East Bay late Saturday.
