By BRIAN LANDMAN
Published February 6, 2005
WHEN/WHERE: 2; Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, Tallahassee.
TV/RADIO: Sun Sports; 1470-AM.
RECORDS: North Carolina 18-2, 7-1 ACC; FSU 11-10, 3-5.
COACHES: North Carolina - Roy Williams (37-13, second season; 455-114 overall), FSU - Leonard Hamilton (44-39, third season; 245-249).
NOTABLE: The Seminoles are coming off a 64-61 loss at No. 25 Georgia Tech on Wednesday; the Yellow Jackets hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds. They need to hold serve at home if they hope to have a shot at the postseason (NIT). ... Notwithstanding a couple missed free throws in the final minute, the play of junior forward Diego Romero (10 points) was encouraging. He had been slowed by left knee tendinitis much of the season. ... The Tar Heels, atop the ACC standings, have won four straight in dominating fashion but begin a daunting three-game road trip. They play archrival Duke on Wednesday and UConn Feb. 13. You might think this is one in which they could get caught looking ahead, but the Heels have lost two of the last three times in Tallahassee. That includes a 90-81 overtime loss on Jan. 22, 2004, in which FSU rallied from 24 down. ... UNC has five players averaging double figures (junior guard Rashad McCants, senior forward Jawad Williams, junior center Sean May, junior point guard Raymond Felton and freshman forward Marvin Williams).
