Orange County judge suspended

Associated Press
Published February 6, 2005

ORLANDO - A juvenile judge has been suspended by the state supreme court on misconduct charges and could lose his job.

James Henson will be suspended with pay later this month while the court decides whether he should be removed from the bench, 9th Judicial Circuit spokeswoman Karen Levey said Friday. The suspension will last until the high court decides how Henson should be disciplined.

A state Judicial Qualifications Commission panel concluded last month that Henson accepted private legal work while sitting as a county judge and encouraged clients to flee to avoid prosecution while working as their attorney. The panel cleared Henson of three other counts.

Henson, 56, admitted the first count at a hearing in October but denied telling anyone to flee.
