Students can browse booths of college fair

DOWNTOWN - The Tampa National College Fair runs from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St., to help students navigate the complex college admissions process.
Students can meet with representatives from several colleges and universities to learn about admission requirements, financial aid, course offerings and campus environment.

Charity biking event benefits YMCA programs
DOWNTOWN - Pedal for charity during the Downtown YMCA Wellness Center's fifth annual Spin Off 2005, "Biking for Treasure," from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Participants can ride one to six hours to raise donations to benefit Tampa YMCA youth programs. Teams and individual riders 18 years or older are welcome.

Digital camera basics and a fashion focus
TAMPA - Learn to master your digital camera at "Digital Bootcamp" hosted by the International Academy of Design and Technology of Tampa. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. today, with a seminar by artist John Paul Caponigro, and end Saturday with a live fashion shoot.
The free event will also feature a faculty photography exhibition and a series of photography workshops.

Painter's exhibit opens with reception, music
NORTH HYDE PARK - St. Petersburg artist Thomas Murray presents a solo exhibition of 25 paintings titled "Meaningfullessfullness" at Look Studio, 209 N Armenia Ave.
A free opening reception with the artist will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the studio. Local guitarist Roger Sullins will perform.
Murray, a former Hillsborough County school art instructor, is a graduate of the University of South Florida and recipient of the Florida Artists Fellowship.

Awards given for help to children, families
TAMPA - Hillsborough County Children's Services has been named Outstanding Agency of the Year by the Florida Network of Youth & Family Services.
The agency received the statewide award for having a significant impact on local youth and families, for finding creative solutions to community issues and for taking a leadership role on a local and state level.
Hillsborough County Children's Services also received Outstanding Law Enforcement Partner of the Year, which went to sheriff's Cpl. Sonja Shepard for her exceptional service to children and families in need.
Outstanding Business Partner of the Year went to United Cab Co. for providing free transportation to children who needed a ride to a shelter.
Outstanding Volunteer of the Year went to three generations of the Mobley family for their contributions to children at the Haven W. Poe Runaway Shelter.
Guided meditation aims at stress relief
HYDE PARK NORTH - Yogani Studios Inc. will host yoga nidra, a guided meditation practice, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at its new location, 1112 W Platt St. In lieu of fees for the class, Yogani will collect donations for the tsunami relief efforts.

DOWNTOWN - High school students, transfer students and parents are invited to a financial aid workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the University of Tampa's Vaughn Center, 401 W Kennedy Blvd. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in Plant Hall.
Marketing professor Hemant Rustogi will lead an optional program for students, "Learn to make a job, not just take a job; entrepreneurial thinking for life," in the Vaughn Center's Crescent Club.

DeBartolo foundation aids tsunami victims
TAMPA - The DeBartolo Family Foundation, a Tampa nonprofit organization that benefits local, national and international communities, has committed $30,000 to ongoing relief efforts for countries affected by the tsunami. The foundation has pledged $10,000 each to the AmeriCares Foundation, Habitat for Humanity International and UNICEF.
