Woman runs over friend in dark Holiday garage

By Times Staff Writer
Published February 12, 2005

HOLIDAY - An 88-year-old woman was in serious condition Friday after being run over by a car driven by a friend picking her up for lunch.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Betty Wingertzahn was hit as Lillian Bentrovato pulled into her garage about 9:40 a.m. The garage was dark, and Bentrovato did not see her friend, Trooper Larry Coggins said. Bentrovato, 74, realized she hit something, put the Plymouth Neon in reverse and drove over Wingertzahn, Coggins said. She was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
