JACKSONVILLE - A missing 14-year-old from St. Petersburg was beaten to death with hands, fists and a blunt instrument, the Duval County Medical Examiner's Office said Monday.

The body of Joshua Corriveau was found Thursday in a closet of a Jacksonville home by Secret Service investigators who were investigating a bank fraud case.

Two men at the home were arrested, but neither has been charged in the boy's death.

William Steven Popjes, 37, was charged with false imprisonment and interference with custody on warrant from Pinellas County. He was being held at Duval County Jail. Christopher James Buist, 18, was charged with aggravated child abuse on a child with a deadly weapon. He also was being held without bail at the Duval County Jail.

Corriveau's mother, Donna Corriveau, said the two men lived with her and her son in St. Petersburg for more than a year. She told police that her son left voluntarily Nov. 9 with the men and she hadn't heard from them since.

Corriveau has alleged that Popjes locked her in the bedroom of her home, beat her and used duct tape to keep her in a bed.
