Science Center fundraiser to honor physician

The Science Center of Pinellas County will host a fundraiser, The Determined Heart, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at 7701 22nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg. The program will celebrate the center's African American Inventors and Scientists exhibit and will honor Dr. Vivien Thomas, a pioneer in the treatment of "blue baby syndrome." Thomas' nephew, Dr. Koco Eaton, will give a presentation about his uncle. Refreshments provided. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for students; proceeds benefit the science center. Call 384-0027.

Seminar to explain how to adopt kids from China

New Beginnings, 1301 Seminole Blvd., Suite 111, Largo, a non-profit licensed adoption agency, will offer a seminar Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon to explain the process of adopting female children from China. Couples who have succesfully built their families through adoption will be on hand to take questions. Information on other programs will be available as well. Call 584-5262.

Kiwanis club's event to raise funds for children

The Kiwanis Club of the Gulf Beaches will hold a fundraiser to benefit Children's Charities and the Miracle Field, charities working to protect and assist children, March 12 from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and March 13 from noon-7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex, Rex Drive in Madeira Beach. Enjoy live music, hot air balloon rides, arts and crafts, food, and a kids' fun area. Prices are $5 per person or $20 per family of four or more. Call (352) 546-2322.

Festival to benefit Friends of Strays adoptions

The ninth annual Friends of Strays Fundraising Festival will be Feb. 26 at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, 11 Central Ave., from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Enjoy a fashion show, raffle baskets, a silent auction and more. Tickets are $30 per person. Proceeds will benefit Friends of Strays Emergency Surgery and Special Treatment Fund. Call Lori at 522-6566.

Rent a table for $10 at Feb. 26 garage sale

ST. PETERSBURG - A garage sale will be from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 26 at the Walter Fuller Youth Center, 7891 26th Ave. N. Table rental is $10.

Car clubs, which are theft prevention devices, are available free if a vehicle owner has a car or truck considered likely theft targets; presentation of vehicle registration is required to qualify.
