Two men charged in teen's slaying

Associated Press
Published February 16, 2005

JACKSONVILLE - Two men were charged Tuesday in the slaying of a 14-year-old St. Petersburg boy, who police say was beaten to death with fists and a blunt instrument.

The body of Joshua Corriveau, who was missing from his St. Petersburg home but was known by his mother to be with the pair, was found Thursday in a closet of the men's rental home.

It was found by U.S. Secret Service agents investigating a bank fraud case.

William Steven Popjes, 37, and his adopted son, Christopher James Buist, 20, both face murder charges, said Rick Wood, a spokesman for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Both have been jailed since the boy's body was found.

The men previously lived with the boy and his mother in St. Petersburg.
