The annual food-rides-games fest that is known as the 101st State Fair ends Monday at the fairgrounds at 4800 U.S. 301 N. Here's your last chance to taste a coopie a cross between a cookie and a pie, take a spin on the Giant Wheel or toss some rings to win a goldfish. Gates open at 9 a.m. daily. Here are some highlights from the closing days:
Budweiser Latin presents Fiesta Gigante from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Chevrolet Family Center. The event celebrates Tampa's Hispanic heritage with music, shows, food and special guests.
The Sunburst Beauty Pageant hosts contestants of all ages in Florida preliminaries at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Tampa Electric Performing Arts Dome.
A Tampa-based youth musical production group will put on an Entertainment Revue at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Monday in the Chevrolet Family Theater.
High school students from around the state will compete for state championship honors in LifeSmarts, the Ultimate Consumer Challenge, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center Pavilion.
Five band members, ranging in age from 11 to 14, play the guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and saxophone in concert at 4 and 6 p.m. Monday in the Chevrolet Family Theater.
Newsboys, a contemporary Christian band, takes the stage at 6 p.m. Monday at the Ford Amphitheatre. Tickets are $20 or $15 plus fair admission.
Ticket Plans and Admission Deals, Fairgoers can purchase a Pepsi armband ticket in advance for $16 and get unlimited rides at the fair on Sunday or Monday.
Students in grades K-12 are admitted to the fair for $5 on Monday.
