Here's a look at new businesses in the area:

SOUL FOOD: Simply Good Restaurant opened Dec. 31 at 8214 Causeway Blvd. in the Clair Mel Shopping Center. Featured menu items include homemade macaroni and cheese, fish sandwiches, collard greens and fresh green beans. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 630-1201.

PET SHOP: Calling all pet lovers! Pet Palace, a new store specializing in exotic birds, reptiles and pet supplies, opened Jan. 15 with live music, food and, of course, lots of sample merchandise. The store is located at 406 Shell Point Road. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Call 649-9891.

BEAUTY SALON: Sassy and Sophisticated hair salon recently opened at 8222 Causeway Blvd. in the Clair Mel Shopping Plaza. The shop specializes in weaves and braiding; routine services such as a wash and style start at $25. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Walk-ins welcome. Call 630-4640.

ON THE MOVE: Nearly a dozen tenants of the former Peddler's Mall and Flea Market on State Road 60 have relocated to 747 W Martin Luther King Blvd. at the corner of Parsons Avenue into a space they call Our Little Shoppes. The vendors sell an eclectic mix, including beads, casual clothing, CDs, monogrammed pillows, garden accessories, sporting goods and picture framing supplies. Prices start at a dollar and can range into several hundred dollars for some collector's dolls. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. One store, Nan's Corner, which sells Asian collectibles and furniture, is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call 655-0662.
