Tsunami relief effort features auction, film

OLD HYDE PARK - The Tampa Bay International Network hosts "Tampa Tsunami Relief Effort: Together We Care" on Tuesday at Sunrise Cinemas, 1609 W Swann Ave. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the theater lobby with a silent auction featuring donated items from local businesses.
At 7:30 p.m., the University of Tampa's department of communication and the Tampa Bay Film Society present A Peck On The Cheek (Kannathil Muthamittal), a film by Mani Ratnam. Ratnam, a renowned artistic and commercial filmmaker in India, has received two Academy Award nominations for best foreign-language picture.
Tickets go sale at 5 p.m. the day of the event. Cost is $8 for adults, and $5 for students and senior citizens.
Proceeds from the auction and ticket sales will go to UNICEF's tsunami relief efforts. For information, call 253-3333, ext. 3425.
University presents Spring Dance Concert
DOWNTOWN - The University of Tampa's department of speech, theater and dance presents its free Spring Dance Concert at 8 p.m. today and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Falk Theater, 428 W Kennedy Blvd.
The concert features choreography by UT faculty members and guest artists, with performances by UT students in ballet, modern, Latin dance, tap and jazz. Moving Current dance collective co-director Cynthia Hennessy and former Tampa Ballet dancer Bill Philin Ploplis also will dance.

Hillsborough cleanup needs volunteers, more
TAMPA - Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful needs site captains, sponsors and volunteers for its 12th annual Great American Cleanup on April 16.
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon at locations throughout Hillsborough County. Last year, more than 1,319 volunteers collected 107,794 pounds of trash.

Singers can get help to increase power, range
DOWNTOWN - Those with a song in their heart are invited to an informal, interactive voice master class taught by Joseph and Violette Meyers.
The class will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Patel Conservatory, 1010 N W.C. MacInnes Place. Cost is $15.
The instructors will aid audience members in improving power and range. The class is open to people of all ages. Six experienced singers will give demonstrations.

Salesian Sisters mark 75th anniversary
DOWNTOWN - The annual Salesian Sisters Partners Circle Dinner will be at 6:45 p.m. Saturday at the Tampa Marriott Waterside, 700 S Florida Ave. Salesian Sisters, staff members, trustees and friends will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Salesian Sisters' arrival in Tampa and celebrate the ribbon cutting of renovations recently completed at Villa Madonna School.
The dinner also will highlight the lives of Alicia Gonzales Neve (1869-1952), Ana Maria Baldor-Bunn (1972-2002) and Ann Lowry Murphey, three women who believed strongly in the Salesian Sisters' mission at Villa Madonna and the Salesian Youth Center Boys & Girls Club.

Foundation commits $30,000 to tsunami relief
TAMPA - The DeBartolo Family Foundation - a Tampa nonprofit organization that benefits local, national and international communities - has committed $30,000 to ongoing relief efforts for countries affected by the tsunami. The foundation has pledged $10,000 each to the AmeriCares Foundation, Habitat for Humanity International and UNICEF.
