The United States Bowling Congress offers its newest tournament when the Storm National Mixed Team Challenge visits Pinellas County's Seminole Lanes Sunday.
The challenge replaces the ABCb.line World Team Challenge that competed for 12 years at the center, one of the most successful tournaments staged by the ABC, now the USBC.
Walk-in entries at $300 per team will be accepted until 9 a.m. Sunday.
Where the WTC was a five-man, scratch event, the challenge is handicap and features at least one woman on the four-person squads. Orlando's Boardwalk Bowl opens the tournament's 11-city tour today.
The Seminole Lanes' field will roll three regular games starting at 10 a.m. Sunday. All squads return at 1:30 p.m. for 10 Baker System games with total pins determining the winner. Handicap is 90 percent of 210. Each team player in Baker play rolls two frames per game. There is no admission charge Sunday.
"The Storm National Mixed Team Challenge is another tournament we hope will become as successful as the WTC," USBC tournament director Tom Boedecker said. "By adding women to the teams and changing to handicap we hope to generate more interest."
The WTC ended its season with the Grand Championship featuring all the tour winners, but the challenge will not hold a season finale.
