First doing business at a reception and then celebrating it over dinner, hundreds of Tampa Bay area businessmen and businesswomen gathered Thursday evening at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Tampa to honor six of their own.

At an event hosted by the Florida Council on Economic Education, chairman Dr. Zachariah Zachariah brought more than 20 former Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame recipients to the stage and then began the ceremony for the 2005 inductees: Andrew E. "Andy" Barnes, former chairman and CEO of Times Publishing Co. and the St. Petersburg Times; Richard A. "Dick" Beard III, owner and president, R.A. Beard Co.; Vernon G. "Vern" Buchanan, chairman and CEO, Buchanan Enterprises; William A. Krusen, chairman, General Group Holdings, who was unable to attend; Joseph P. "Joe" Ruthven, owner, the Ruthvens; and James H. "Jim" Shimberg of Shimberg-Cross Co.

Also on stage to congratulate the inductees and assist with the presentations were representatives from founding sponsors KPMG and the Tampa Bay Business Journal, as well as Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist and Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, both expected to run for governor in 2006.
