Mosley, Vinoy shoot to the top in interclub

A second-place tie in the Pinellas Men's Interclub League match last week vaulted the Vinoy Golf Club into first in the standings.
The monthly match of 12 clubs was at Dunedin Country Club.
The Vinoy's Randy Mosley, the club's director of golf the past 12 years, produced a match-best 1-under 71 on the Donald Ross-designed course that opened in 1927. Mosley was paired with club member Fred McCoy, who plays to an 18 handicap.
Mosley said he wasn't aware the team's finish, worth 8.5 points, moved 400-member Vinoy into first. "That will be wonderful news to our members," Mosley said. He praised his partner.
"Although Fred plays to an 18 handicap, he had net pars on the two holes I bogeyed in the round," Mosley said. "The interesting thing is, he's primarily a tennis player who only took up golf a year ago.
"He seemed a little nervous at the start playing with me. Why? I don't know," Mosley said. "But he settled down and really contributed to the team's success."
Mosley had three birdies to offset the two bogeys. The birdies came on the par-3 11th, par-5 15th and par-4 fourth.
On the dogleg left 15th, which requires clearing Curlew Creek, Mosley's deliberate hook almost found the water but left him within 205 yards for his approach shot.
With a strong tailwind, he hit a 6-iron to within 6 feet for a good chance at an eagle. Mosley's putt broke left, leaving him with a disappointing birdie.
The victory in the pro division was Mosley's second straight. At Cypress Run in January, he won with a 2-under 70.
February's match was postponed due to cold weather.
