Jessica Sierra of Tampa made it through to the final 20 of American Idol on Wednesday night, receiving enough viewer votes for her performance of Against All Odds to be among the final 10 women.
Booted off the show were two men and two women, who received the lowest number of votes after the Monday and Tuesday performances: Jared Yates, 18, a high school senior from Danville, Ill., who sang Marc Anthony's How Could I; Judd Harris, 27, of New York, who did Travelin' Band; Melinda Lira, 19, a sporting goods sales clerk from Hanford, Calif., who sang Celine Dion's Power Of Love; and Sarah Mather, 22, of Wilmington, N.C., who performed Get Ready.
The final 10 men perform again at 8 Monday night on Fox, followed by the women at 8 on Tuesday. Two more from each group will be sent home on Wednesday's 9 p.m. show.
Clarkson to launch first solo headline tour
NEW YORK - Kelly Clarkson is hitting the road on her first solo headline tour.
Clarkson, winner of the first American Idol competition, will open "The Breakaway Tour" March 30 in Tulsa, Okla. The tour includes a stop at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater on May 7.
"Nothing makes me happier than being on the road," the 22-year-old singer said in a statement Tuesday. "I can't wait to see the fans."
Her second album, Breakaway, features two singles: the title track and Since U Been Gone.
Michelin guide to rate New York restaurants
PARIS - When the Michelin guide comes out in France, chefs rise or fall like so many souffles. Now it is venturing across the Atlantic to rate the eateries of New York City - from the Bronx to Staten Island.
The Big Apple is the first stop for Michelin's anonymous snoopers, who then plan to sniff and sample their way through restaurants across the country for an American collection.
The new guide, due out in November, will rate some 500 restaurants in all five boroughs of New York City and about 50 hotels in Manhattan, Michelin announced Wednesday.
Michelin now puts out 12 guides covering 20 countries. The New York guide will be No. 13.
"Having covered all of Europe ... it was normal to internationalize and arrive on the (North) American continent," the guide's director, Jean-Luc Naret, told the Associated Press.
The announcement came as Michelin was forced to rush out its 2005 honors for French restaurants after its guide mistakenly went on sale a week early in some book shops on the French island of Corsica.
The blunder merely underscored the weight wielded by the "little red guide" whose star-based rating system defines fine cuisine for Europeans.
Theater group postpones shows
The performances of Stonewall Jackson's House by the Fresh! Live! Theatre Co. in St. Petersburg scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday have been postponed to March 11-13. The postponement occurred after today's Weekend was printed.
