ARROWHEAD - A man armed with a long knife robbed a convenience store early Wednesday, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office reported.

A female clerk at the Citgo convenience store on State Road 200 at the Citrus-Marion county line told detectives that a man armed with a knife entered the store about 3:30 a.m.

She said the knife was about 8 inches long.

The robber approached the clerk, one of two in the store, and demanded cash. The clerk opened the register and the robber grabbed about $120, said Gail Tierney, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office.

A second clerk was in a back room and did not witness the robbery, but heard the first clerk scream and then went outside the store and got a quick glimpse of the getaway car.

Since the suspect's face was concealed, and he wore a long-sleeved gray and red flannel shirt, it was difficult to come up with a description. But officials suspect the robber is white, of average height and weighs about 180 pounds, Tierney said. He could have blond hair.

The store has a surveillance camera, but the robber's disguise was effective, and the Sheriff's Office decided not to release a photo of the man.

The robber left the store, got into a car that possibly had a driver in it and was last seen on County Road 39, Tierney said. She had no description of the car.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 726-4488.
