Indian Rocks Beach pavilion to debut amid jazz and rock

The Rotary Club of Indian Rocks Beach will dedicate the Rotary Centennial Pavilion at Chick-a-see Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 12. A "full day of fun" will include tours of the Historical Museum (10 a.m.), live music and entertainment - including an appearance by the Seminole High School Jazz Band - beginning at 11 a.m., the dedication at 2 p.m. and two hours of "great rock 'n' roll" beginning at 3 p.m. The park is on Fourth Avenue behind Crabby Bill's. The Rotary Club donated the pavilion to city residents in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Rotary International. The event is co-sponsored by the YMCA North Beaches Branch, Indian Rocks Beach and Century 21 Plumlee Realty.

The Indian Rocks Beach Historical Society will kick off its celebration of the city's 50th anniversary at a potluck luncheon at noon Saturday at the museum. Wayne Ayers, historical society vice president, will give a slide presentation on his latest book Tampa Bay's Gulf Beaches: The Fabulous 1950s and 1960s. Ayers will show vintage photographs of the area and present a pictorial journey back to when the gulf beaches emerged as a booming vacation destination. The luncheon is free; just bring a dish to share. The museum is at 203 Fourth Ave., across from the Indian Rocks Beach Post Office. For information, call 593-3861.

The Chancel Choir of Church of the Isles, 200 24th Ave., will present an original musical drama, Triumphant in Life, during the 10 a.m. service March 20, Palm Sunday. The cantata - written, arranged and directed by Carolyn DeLay, musical director and organist - recalls Jesus' last days on earth, from the celebration of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem to the struggle of Gethsemane. Indian Shores

The Indian Shores Property Owners Association will hold a picnic at its spring semiannual meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Estelle Harper Park, behind Town Hall. Refreshments will be served and there will be live entertainment. Space is limited. Call Steve Sutch, 595-4149, for reservations. Madeira Beach

The Madeira Beach Seniors Club will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Forum 1 p.m. Monday at City Hall. Candidates vying for a commission seat in the upcoming election will each provide a five-minute presentation and will have five minutes to respond to questions from the audience. The forum is open to the public.

St. Pete Beach

Want to learn more about the history of St. Petersburg and its spring training baseball program? Dr. Raymond O. Arsenault, head of the Florida Studies Program at the University of South Florida and author of St. Petersburg and the Florida Dream, will speak at the St. Pete Beach Library at 2 p.m. Monday. Arsenault will discuss his book, Our Roots Run Deep, a history of spring training in Florida and St. Petersburg. An excerpt from Roots was reprinted in the Florida Humanities Council journal, Forum, and is available at the St. Pete Beach Library, 365 73rd Ave. A brochure on 2005 Grapefruit League teams and schedules from the Florida Sports Commission will be distributed at the program. South Pasadena

South Pasadena will celebrate the city's 50th anniversary March 12 (rain date, March 13) at Duryea Park on Sunset Drive S. Festivities will start at 6 p.m. with an Italian dinner and concert by the South Pasadena Community Band. Shortly after nightfall, a fireworks display will launch from a barge in Boca Ciega Bay. Dinner tickets are limited to the first 600 purchasers and are available at City Hall and at the city's fire station. The cost is $3 per person. Seating is limited, and ticket sales will close Saturday. Participants are urged to bring folding chairs for the fireworks display. For information, call City Hall at 347-4171.

Treasure Island

The Treasure Island Open Air Market is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday at 107th Ave N, just east of Gulf Boulevard at Pirates Square. The market is sponsored by Treasure Island Business Association and features live entertainment, fresh produce, baked goods, prepared foods, collectibles, and arts and crafts of all types and styles.
