MADISON, Wis. - Alando Tucker's putback at the buzzer gave No. 23 Wisconsin a 62-60 victory over Indiana on Tuesday night.
Tucker missed a 3-pointer in the closing seconds, and Mike Wilkinson grabbed the rebound but was too far under the basket for his follow shot to come close. Tucker swooped in, grabbed the rebound and put it back in one motion before being swarmed by his teammates as the ball fell through.
Wilkinson scored 28 to help the Badgers senior class to its 87th win, most in school history. He would have eclipsed his career high of 29 had he not made 5 of 10 free throws in the final 2:50.
CLEMSON 66, VA. TECH 64: Sharrod Ford made a dunk with .2 seconds left to lift the host Tigers.
NO. 2 UNC: Rashad McCants, who has missed two games with an intestinal disorder, could miss Thursday's game against Florida State.
MISS. ST. 57, ARKANSAS 55: Gary Ervin scored his four in the final 1:08 to lift the visiting Bulldogs. Lawrence Roberts led Mississippi State with 13 points.
State
FAU: Forward Mike Bell was named Atlantic Sun player of the year, the school's first player to receive the honor.
ALL-SSC TEAMS: Tampa's Mark Borders and Saint Leo's Marquis McCullough were named All-Sunshine State Conference. McCullough was freshman of the year, and he and the Spartans' Chris Evans were unanimous choices for the all-freshman team.
Nation
ST. JOE'S RESPONDS: The Rev. Timothy Lannon, president of Saint Joseph's, accepted the actions of Temple and coach John Chaney in response to a hard foul that injured Hawks senior John Bryant but said the school and Atlantic 10 should have taken more initiative rather than let Chaney decide his penalty.
Bryant broke his arm in a fall when Chaney sent in a player he called a "goon" on Feb. 22. Chaney has suspended himself through the conference tournament after initially announcing a one-game suspension.
The Hawks clinched the conference regular-season championship with a 71-56 win against host George Washington.
PROVIDENCE 86, ST. JOHN'S 75: Ryan Gomes, playing in his final home game, scored 23 and Donnie McGrath added 22 to lead the Friars.
WRITERS HONORED: Frank Burlison of the Long Beach Press-Telegram, Malcolm Moran of USA Today and Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald-Leader were elected to the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame.
