Burglary suspect shot, killed in Hillsborough

By SHANNON COLAVECCHIO-VAN SICKLER
Published March 3, 2005

A burglary in southern Hillsborough County this morning ended with one of three suspects shot dead, according to Hillsborough Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

Carter released scant details about the shooting, including the identities of the suspects and deputies involved.

She said the incident began at 8:07 a.m. when deputies went to a burglary in progress at 506 Rooks Road in southeast Hillsborough. Deputies arrived at the residence to find three suspects, two men and a woman. They arrested one of the men, but the other two got into a Cadillac and sped off, Carter said.

Deputies followed the Cadillac into an orange grove at Kingsway Road and Collins Ranch Road in Thonotosassa. The two suspects got out of the Cadillac and started to run, but deputies caught the woman.

Carter said shots were fired, and the woman's accomplice is dead. Sheriff's officials have not said who fired the shots or whether the male suspect threatened deputies.
