ACC women's tournament

By BRIAN LANDMAN, Times Staff Writer
Published March 4, 2005

WHEN/WHERE: Today-Monday, Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, N.C.

TODAY: No. 8 Georgia Tech vs. No. 9 Miami, 11 a.m.; No. 7 Virginia Tech vs. No. 10 Wake Forest, 6 p.m.; No. 6 Maryland vs. No. 11 Clemson, 8 p.m.

TV: Saturday, Sun Sports (quarterfinals, noon and 2:30 p.m.); Sunday, Sun Sports (semifinals, 1 and 3:30 p.m.); Monday, Sun Sports (championship game, 7:30 p.m.). FAVORITES: Fourth-ranked North Carolina has won 10 straight, including a sweep of Duke. The No. 6 Blue Devils' only other loss came at Notre Dame in mid November, and they have won 15 straight ACC Tournament games and five consecutive tournament titles. No. 19 North Carolina State seems to peaking; its lone loss in February came at UNC, 75-72 in overtime.

DARK HORSES: Florida State is the last team to beat UNC, 79-73 in overtime Jan. 20 in Tallahassee, and its unconventional five-guard lineup creates all kinds of matchup problems. No. 25 Maryland has one of the top duos in the league in guard Shay Doron and center Crystal Langhorne.
