HUIXQUILUCAN, Mexico - Cristie Kerr shot 4-under 68 on Saturday for a two-stroke lead over Moira Dunn and Sae-Hee Son going into the last round of the MasterCard Classic, the first LPGA Tour event in Mexico since 1975.
Annika Sorenstam, in her first event this year, was three behind after 71, and Mexico's Lorena Ochoa shot 75 to fall eight back.
"I'm not too far behind," Sorenstam said. "I'm in a position where I have a chance tomorrow. That's really what matters."
Kerr, second to Jennifer Rosales last week in the SBS Open in Hawaii, had six birdies - four on the back nine - and two bogeys to reach 6 under on the Bosque Real Country Club course. A three-time winner last year, Kerr has adjusted to the high-altitude conditions on the course overlooking 7,400-foot-high Mexico City.
Dunn shot 72, and Son had her second straight 70.
Sorenstam, an eight-time winner last year on the tour, was 3 under through 14 holes but dropped two strokes with double bogey on No. 15.
"It was a little up and down," Sorenstam said. "I played really well on the first few holes, but then I made a mistake on 15 that cost me. ... I've come from many more shots behind, but I have to be patient. This is a course where anything can happen."
EUROPEAN TOUR: Miguel Angel Jimenez avoided the mistakes that slowed Ernie Els, shooting 4-under 68 for a one-stroke lead in the Dubai Desert Classic in United Arab Emirates. Jimenez, also the second-round leader, had 16-under 200 total. Els shot 67 for second place, taking four putts for double bogey on the opening hole before making seven birdies. Colin Montgomerie (66) was three back.
