Sago Networks, a Tampa wireless network developer, will play host Tuesday to the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.
The committee headed by former Sen. Connie Mack of Florida is coming to town to hear how the corporate income tax works and how taxes affect small businesses.
The focus on business made the small technology company's headquarters at 4465 W Gandy Blvd. the setting of choice for the hearing, which starts at 9:30 a.m. The privately held Sago calls itself an alternative to telephone and cable monopolies and inefficient Internet service providers. It runs a free wireless network in downtown Tampa and is setting up networks for Hillsborough and Pinellas public schools.
"The tax laws have gotten so complex, I don't think anybody understands it," Sago president Miller Cooper said. "I hope this gets them started in the right direction.
The public may attend the meeting, but only invited witnesses will get a chance to speak. That list includes Roger Harris, president of Padgett Business Services; Todd Fleming, chief executive of Infrasafe Inc.; and David Hurley, owner of Landmark Engineering and Surveying. Others scheduled to testify are former Rep. Sam Gibbons, lawyer Jack Levin and professors Douglas Shackelford of the University of North Carolina, William Gentry of Williams College and Donald Bruce of the University of Tennessee.
