Fun-filled day set for pavilion dedication

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - The Rotary Club of Indian Rocks Beach will dedicate the Rotary Centennial Pavilion at Chick-a-see Park on Saturday.
A day of fun, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include tours of the Historical Museum (10 a.m.), live music and entertainment, including an appearance by the Seminole High School Jazz Band, beginning at 11 a.m., the dedication at 2 p.m. and two hours of rock 'n' roll beginning at 3 p.m.
The park is on Fourth Avenue behind Crabby Bill's. The Rotary Club donated the pavilion to city residents in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Rotary International. The event is co-sponsored by the YMCA North Beaches Branch, the city of Indian Rocks Beach, and Century 21 Plumlee Realty.
Madeira Beach
A Family Fest weekend, sponsored by Kiwanis of Gulf Beaches, will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Madeira Beach Recreation Complex, 200 Rex Place.
The event will include hot air balloons, arts and crafts, a waterslide, live music and clowns on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 a person, with a $20 maximum for a family. For more information, call 244-2171.
St. Pete Beach
Four Florida baseball writers - Peter Golenbock, Kevin McCarthy, Dave Scheiber and Rick Wilber - will appear at the St. Pete Beach Library at 2 p.m. Sunday to celebrate the literature of baseball.
A selection of the authors' books will be available for sale and signing. There will be some baseball-related giveaways as well. Former TV sportscaster Dick Crippen, a man with a few baseball stories of his own, will emcee the program.
Some of these baseball stories range from a Buddhist monk recruited by the New York Mets, kids from St. Louis who skipped school just to attend spring training in Florida five years in a row, and the time Babe Ruth caught so many fish he nearly sunk a boat.
The writers' appearance at the St. Pete Beach Library, free and open to the public, is supported by a grant from the Florida Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast will offer a five-week workshop for those who help provide care for a family member or friend, to be held Thursdays through March 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Pass-a-Grille Beach Community Church. South Pasadena
South Pasadena will celebrate the city's 50th Anniversary on Saturday (rain date, Sunday) at Duryea Park, on Sunset Drive S. Festivities start at 6 p.m. with an Italian dinner and concert by the South Pasadena Community Band. After nightfall, a fireworks display will launch from a barge in Boca Ciega Bay. Dinner tickets are limited to the first 600 buyers and are available at City Hall and at the city's fire station. Cost is $3 per person. Seating is limited and ticket sales end Saturday. Treasure Island
The Treasure Island Open Air Market is held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m at 107th Ave. N, just east of Gulf Boulevard at Pirates Square. The market is sponsored by Treasure Island Business Association and features live entertainment, fresh produce, baked goods, prepared foods, collectibles, and arts and crafts of all types and styles. The city will host its Third Annual St. Patrick's Day Golf and Tennis Social Sunday at its Treasure Bay facility, 10315 Paradise Blvd. Play will begin at 3 p.m. with a buffet following the tournament. Cost for the event is $25 per person, including a tennis mixer or golf scramble and buffet catered by Karim's Bistro. Door prices will be awarded. Indian Rocks Beach
Volunteers are needed for the Pinellas Spring Clean Up from 8 a.m. until noon March 19 at the Indian Rocks Beach County Park, located at the 18th Avenue Beach Access on Gulf Boulevard.
The volunteers will be provided bags and gloves for the pickup event. The city will hold a cookout (hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks) following the event.

The Chancel Choir of Church of the Isles will present an original musical drama, "Triumphant in Life," Palm Sunday, March 20 during the 10 a.m. service.
The Cantata, written, arranged, and directed by Carolyn DeLay, musical director and organist, recalls Jesus' last days on earth, from the celebration of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem to the struggle of Gethsemane.

The 28th Annual Beauty and the Beach Arts and Crafts Show, sponsored by the city and the Beach Art Center, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2 in Kolb Park.
The arts and crafts show is a part of the citywide Beauty and the Beach celebration that includes music, food and other activities.
The entry fee for the arts and crafts show is $80. There will be cash awards. Applications are available at the Beach Art Center, 1515 Bay Palm Blvd. For more information, call 596-4331.
Indian Shores
The North Beaches YMCA will present Spring Swing Fling, from noon to 4 p.m March 20 in the picnic pavilion at Indian Shores Town Hall, 19305 Gulf Blvd.
Charlie Vegas' Swing Band will provide music and a dance demonstration. Food and drinks will be sold to benefit the North Beaches YMCA. Attendees should bring chairs but not coolers. For more information, call the YMCA at 595-5610.
Redington Shores
Events at Kids Fun Day, part of the town's celebration of its 50th anniversary, March 19, will include a Fishing Tournament from 8 -10 a.m. at the Redington Long Pier with prizes for biggest fish caught in age groups 3-5, 6-9 and 10-13.
A Sand Art Contest will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Redington Towers Beachfront. Other activities include a Basketball Freethrow Contest from 2 to 4 p.m. at Constitution Park, a Tennis Tournament from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Redington Shores Tennis Court, and a Kid's Solo-Team Contest from 2 to 4 p.m. at Constitution Park with limbo, balloon relay, sack races, tug o'war, bean bag toss, and Hula Hoop games and more.

A Townwide Spring Garage Sale will be April 1 and 2. The Annual Spring Cleanup will be April 9.
Residents should place articles intended for pickup out at the curb the evening of April 8.
Anything that two men can lift will be picked up, with the exception of 55-gallon drums, tires, car batteries and hazardous materials. In addition, two rolloff containers will be located at the old Town Hall vacant lot on 177th Terrace West and at the vacant lot at the southeast corner of Long Point Drive and First Street E on April 8 and 9.

The recreation department's annual Easter Egg Hunt will be March 19, beginning at 9 a.m., in Hurley Park, 1500 Pass-a-Grille Way. The free event is open to children between the ages of 1 and 8.
South Pasadena
The city's 19th Annual Artspring Exhibition will be March 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and March 20 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at City Hall. The exhibition will feature innovations and traditional craft art produced by local artists working in clay, wood, metals, glass, paper, watercolor, acrylic, and oils.
