Hot Ticket: Two festivals frolic to a finish

Two of the biggest regional festivals wrap up this weekend, both with country concerts, food, midway rides and more.
In Plant City, the musical lineup for the final days of the Florida Strawberry Festival includes Neil Sedaka today, John Michael Montgomery on Friday, Michael W. Smith on Saturday and LeAnn Rimes on Sunday. Each act performs at 4 and 7:30 p.m. There are a few free seats for each show; reserved seats are $10 to $15, plus gate admission.
Gates open at 10 a.m. daily; midway opens noon Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $9, $5 for ages 6-12. Today, Senior Citizens' Day, seniors are admitted for $8. Take Exit 19 from Interstate 4 and follow the signs. Festival information, 813 752-9194; www.flstrawberryfestival.com At the Chasco Fiesta in Sims Parks, downtown New Port Richey, the celebration continues with a boat parade on the Cotee River at 1 p.m. Saturday and the Country Concert with Phil Vassar and Buddy Jewell at 7 p.m. Saturday (advance tickets are $12).
Other festival entertainment includes "Rhythm & Bluesmasters" from 6 to 11 p.m. today, tickets cost $7; "Family Night Contemporary Christian," with Desert Rain and Salvador from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday; and "Concert Band Showcase," featuring local high school bands, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Sims Park is north of Main Street on the east side of the Pithlachascotee River. Free public parking lots are near the fiesta site watch for direction signs.
