ST. PETERSBURG - A driver for Bright House Networks died Wednesday afternoon after his company truck burst into flames on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street, just south of Interstate 275.

Witnesses told investigators that the truck was traveling north about 30 mph when they saw flames coming from the cab. The fire quickly spread, engulfing the entire front part of the truck.

The driver, whose name was not released Wednesday, stopped the truck and leaped out. Witnesses said he was covered in flames as he ran to the grass median, rolling to try to put out the fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. The truck appeared to be hauling several empty wooden pallets.
