Upper Pinellas junior players finish tourney

The S.E.E.M. team won the AA Division scratch title as the Upper Pinellas Junior Bowling Association concluded its two-weekend run Sunday at Countryside Lanes.

Allie and Chris Edgar, Stephanie Scanlon and Joe May shot 2,497 for the victory. Chris Edgar and May captured the doubles crown (1,205).

Three Men & A Baby claimed the B Division handicap championship with 2,611. Team member Jared Solomon and Dustin Callan fired 1,409 for the doubles win.

Crash & Burn won the A Division, Ernie's Rebels were the C-Division winners and Specialty Installation No. 2 topped the D Division.

Carly Clayton won the girls A-Division singles with a 672 series, Stephanie Blanchard posted the B-Division victory at 630, Heather Bugni turned back the C-Division competition with 691 and Julia Simon won the D Division at 656.

Ashly Galante was the AAA-Division scratch winner with 651.

Clayton and Brandon Yates took the A-Division doubles, Blanchard finished second in doubles with Toshia Maffey and Simon teamed with Jennifer Martin to win the D Division. Candice Helm, of Specialty Installation No. 2, won the C-Division doubles with Sumer Frain.

Brian Coffman was the A-Division boys singles winner with an 807 series, Devin Leveroos won the B Division (744) and Cody Malander was the C-Division champion (725). Corin Agoris topped the D Division (581), and Andrew Colon was the AA-Division scratch winner with a 656 series.

More than 100 youngsters participated. Pat Scanlon was the tournament director.

SUNCOAST MEN: Dig Deep won the team title and James Leathem fired an 833 series to capture the singles crown in the Suncoast Association City Tournament at Pasco's Lane-Glo North.

Ray Peloquin topped the all-events competition with a 2,359 and teamed with Mark Dailey for the doubles championship (1,580).

Dig Deep sent Don Van Riper III, Craig Krause, Biran Meredith and Dan Bourbeau to the line to shoot 2,959. The Misfits were second (2,873).

ON THE MOVE: Bev Ullrich has moved her pro shop from Sunshine Bowl to AMF Kenneth City Lanes because of hurricane and fire damage at Sunshine.

"I'll be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 to 4 p.m.," Ullrich said. For information, call 548-7467.

Joann and Dick Schaarschmidt also moved their trophy shop out of Sunshine Bowl. Their business now is at 9165 U.S. 19 N in the Mainlands Plaza and open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Call 520-8080.

BENEFIT BOWL: The Tampa Bay Hepatitis and Liver Disease Group Association will have an event 1 p.m. Sunday at Sunrise Lanes.

Donations at the door are $20. Proceeds will go toward funding the Chance Center Free Clinic in Gulfport. For information, call Don Vauiso, 577-0836.

SBT UP AND RUNNING: The new Strikefx Bowlers Tour drew 57 players for its first tournament, Feb. 27 at Tampa's AMF University Lanes.

Tony Brooks beat Dale Lee for the top prize of $1,000. Lee collected $500, and Jason Maher took home $250.

The tourney is the creation of Lyn Husen and Ron Kunde of Bowlers' Edge pro-shop in Tampa and run by director Ref Ramoff.

The next tournament is April 10. The entry fee is $80. For information, call (813) 625-1574.

AROUND THE LANES: High scorers - Bob Hubbard Jr., 814 at Twedt's; Jerry Krauss, 300, Keith Glasgow, 300-776, and Art Careau, 290-680, Seminole; and James Trentadue, 299-754, Rainbow. ... Decisions on whether to merge organizations will be made during the next two months by the Suncoast men's and women's associations and St. Petersburg men's and women's associations.
