Causeway Isles voting on traffic plan tweaks

ST. PETERSBURG - Residents of Causeway Isles have received postcard ballots from the city, asking them to vote for or against two changes made to a traffic-calming and beautification plan originally approved by the neighborhood in 2000.
The changes include: installation of two landscaped center medians, one between Third and Fourth avenues S and another between Fourth Avenue and 79th Circle S; the installation of a triangular landscaped median at the intersection of 79th Street S and 79th Circle S; and a stop sign for traffic coming into Causeway Isles from Yacht Club Estates.
The Causeway Isles Neighborhood Association board, traffic committee, and homeowners living next to the possible installations all support them, and are encouraging other neighbors to vote "yes."
Questions concerning the plan can be answered by Michael Frederick, the city's neighborhood transportation manager, on March 21 at the home of Susan Massanari, 240 79th St. S, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Until then, ballots may be dropped off or mailed to the transportation department at 1744 Ninth Ave. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33713; Frederick can be reached at 893-7843 to answer questions.
Having received about 30 filled-in ballots, Frederick reports a majority voted "yes." Asked why anyone would vote against the proposed traffic plan, he said: "A lot of people don't mind the fast speeds and just want to get out of town."
