Hearing for fired worker delayed

ST. PETE BEACH - The personnel review committee hearing for fired public works employee George "Jay" Tabbron will be continued later this month, city officials said Thursday.

The 8 a.m. hearing at City Hall on Thursday lasted nearly 31/2 hours because the city's attorney and Tabbron's attorney discussed how the rest of the process should be handled, said City Clerk Theresa McMaster.

Tabbron did not attend. His attorney, John Hadsall, spoke on his behalf.

Tabbron, an 18-year city employee, was fired Jan. 21 for not reporting his DUI arrest from November. In previous interviews with Neighborhood Times, Tabbron said he didn't know that by failing to do so, he violated city policies.

Depositions with city employees will be next week, McMaster said. The hearing will reconvene on March 23-24 in the commission chambers at 8 a.m. at City Hall, 155 Corey Ave. The hearing is open to the public.
