Women: Baylor wins its first title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sophia Young scored 18 to earn Big 12 tournament MVP honors as No. 6 Baylor won its first championship with a 68-55 victory over No. 17 Kansas State on Saturday.
Steffanie Blackmon had a season-high 14 rebounds for the Bears (27-3), who won their 14th straight. Chameka Scott added 12 points and Chelsea Whitaker finished with 10 for the former Southwest Conference members, who added their first automatic NCAA Tournament bid in school history to the Big 12 regular-season title.
It wasn't easy against a Kansas State team that trailed Texas 17-0 in the semifinals before rallying to win 72-69.
The Wildcats (23-7) started slowly in each half Saturday night, but kept mounting comebacks that fell just short.

STETSON 88, GEORGIA ST. 62: Kristy Brown scored a game-high 28 as the Hatters won the conference final in Dothan, Ala. Nefertiti Walker added 24 points for Stetson, which earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

TEXAS-ARLINGTON 60, LA.-MONROE 54: Rola Ogunoye scored 22 and the Mavericks earned their first NCAA Tournament bid in the tournament final in Monroe, La.

HARTFORD 52, BOSTON 50: Erika Messam's shot with 4.2 seconds left lifted the Hawks in the final at West Hartford, Conn.

LIBERTY 88, N.C.-ASHEVILLE 41: The Flames claimed a record ninth consecutive conference title at Lynchburg, Va., and their 47-point margin set a tournament record.

RICE 86, LA. TECH 66: The Owls knocked off the three-time defending champs in the final at Reno, Nev. Lauren Neaves led six Rice players in double figures with 22 points and had 12 rebounds.

ST. FRANCIS, PA. 65, ROBERT MORRIS 50: Christin Black had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Red Flash in Loretto, Pa., its fourth straight tournament title.

COPPIN ST. 67, NORFOLK ST. 43: LaKesha Wills scored 20 and the Eagles gained their first NCAA Tournament bid in 20 years with the win at Richmond, Va.

NEW MEXICO 47, UTAH 37: The Lobos overcame poor shooting with a smothering defense in Denver for their third straight conference title.
Ivy League
DARTMOUTH 75, HARVARD 61: The conference is the last in the country to give its NCAA bid to the regular-season winner, and after both schools finished 12-2 it was necessary for this playoff game. Elise Morrison had 18 points for the Big Green.

MONTANA 80, WEBER ST. 64: Hollie Tyler scored a career-high 29 to lead the Grizzlies in the tournament final at Missoula, Mont.
