Water must be available before homes approved
Letters to the EditorPublished March 13, 2005
Editor: On Jan. 12, I stood in front of the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners to voice my concern about the 58 homes that were going to be built east of Mariner Boulevard and across from Seven Hills. These were to be built just behind our homes on Finland Drive.
My concern was the water and the water pressure, because Seven Hills is still having problems and Wellington soon will start Unit 11, plus the new apartments south of Seven Hills will soon be occupied.
The commissioners had concerns also, so they tabled this issue until later that afternoon so they could get someone from the utilities department to answer questions.
Director Kay Adams came to supposedly answer these questions. Commissioner Chris Kingsley asked several questions, which she couldn't or wouldn't answer. She was questioned by a couple of other commissioners, who also got nowhere. She finally said she thought, but was not sure, there would be enough water.
With that, the commissioners voted to go ahead with the 58 homes. Kingsley was the only commissioner to vote no. Then, I read in the March 1 newspaper that Ms. Adams has said her department has not yet solved the water pressure woes. I didn't hear her say that at the Jan. 12 meeting. She also said other improvements are in the works and they are trying very, very hard to get water to Seven Hills. How many months has it been? She also stated that the utility system is designed to provide adequate drinking water, but not additional water. I didn't hear that statement at the Jan. 12 meeting either.
What is going on in Spring Hill? More and more homes are going up, and Ms. Adams is saying there is water, then turns around and says there isn't enough.
Commissioners, I beg you to please look into this matter more closely before you make any more decisions.

Spring Hill residents should try WRZN
Editor: I used to love to listen to WGUL-FM (106.3) for my kind of music, but not anymore. I have found another station: WRZN-AM (720).
I enjoy it. So, Spring Hill residents, give it a try.

Reveling in pleasures of '50s and '60s
Editor: I was an avid fan of WGUL until it changed to WJQB and a new format. My radio is now tuned to WDUV.
You had to have lived in the 1950s and '60s to realize how beautiful our country was back then. There were the big bands, and couples young and old would go to dances. There were great vocalists such as Como, Crosby, Sinatra and Francis, just to name a few.
There were amusement parks where people could go and enjoy the games and rides, as well as a picnic area where families could enjoy an outing. There were great movies without all the violence, sex and adult language.
Driving a car was a pleasure, without the road rage of today. You could walk the streets any time, day or night, without the fear that someone would walk up to you and stick a knife or gun into your face.
I will take the '50s and '60s anytime compared to today.

To Brown-Waite caseworker: thanks
Editor: I'm writing to thank Janice Laxton. She is a caseworker from the office of U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite.
I had problems with my Social Security checks, and I went to Brown-Waite's office. They were very professional in handling my case. Thanks to Laxton and to Brown-Waite for having such good and professional people in her office. My check was posted at the bank, and my problems are over.
