Clearwater man found dead along Courtney Campbell

By Times Staff

TAMPA - A couple out for a stroll along the Courtney Campbell Parkway Tuesday morning found the body of a Clearwater man along their path, police said.

Police identified the man as Larry Paul Sanders II, 26, with a last known address of 1100 Webb Drive in Clearwater. According to authorities, the couple was walking along the utility road on the north side of the parkway at about 9 a.m. when they spotted the body, which was on the side of the road near some rocks.

The couple sprinted about a quarter mile to the boat docks and reported what they had seen to city workers.

Tampa Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said Sanders suffered trauma to the head, though she would not give details. She said it appeared his body had been dumped there and had not washed up on shore.

Investigators are looking for the couple, who left before police arrived.
