TAMPA - A former Tampa Bay Lightning hockey player remained in jail without bail Monday after police said he drove his Lexus SUV into a sewer drain, two trees and three mailboxes Sunday while his 5-year-old daughter was in the car.

Judge Walter R. Heinrich ordered Rudy Poeschek, 38, held without bail on charges of driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. Poeschek's next hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

A popular hockey player known for fighting on the ice, Poeschek hid from Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies who came to arrest him on Sunday and led them on a chase around a pond, officials said. Deputies shot him with a Taser, which stuns people with a powerful electrical charge.

Poeschek has previously been arrested on charges of child abuse and false imprisonment, using false information to obtain a prescription pain reliever, and driving with a suspended license, among other offenses. He started playing for the Lightning in 1993 and ended his career in 2001 in the minor leagues. He tried to play for the Lightning again in 2002, but was cut in September.
