Praising incentives, trust firm moves to Highwoods

NEW TAMPA - Highwoods Preserve is vacant no more.
On Wednesday, more than 200 employees of Depository Trust and Clearing Corp. moved into the office park, the nerve center for the company's 176,000-square-foot Southern Business Center.
After a news conference, chief administrative officer Kevin Carey stopped by County Center to personally thank the Hillsborough County Commission.
While Carey said numerous factors cemented DTCC's decision to settle on New Tampa, he said the state's incentive program was attractive. Gov. Jeb Bush promised DTCC $4.4-million from a state fund while Tampa and county officials offered $1.5-million.
"While a company's not likely to make a decision based solely on incentives, this program certainly keeps Hillsborough on a competitive playing field," he said.
By year's end, the company will have more than 400 employees based out of the New Tampa campus.
And unlike WorldCom, their Highwoods predecessor, Carey said, "we are not a transient company. We are here in this community to stay."
