CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: The first American to win the Grand Prix of Rome, Italy, in 1983 aboard Livius. In 1987 aboard Starman, she won three Nations Cup competitions and was named AHSA horsewoman of the year. In 1991 she was named leading female rider at the World Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, and became the second woman and third American to win the Grand Prix of Aachen. That year, the U.S. Olympic Committee named her female equestrian athlete of the year. In 1995, riding Dynamite, she won the American Gold Cup for a record fourth time and was named AHSA/Hertz equestrian of the year. She was the highest-placed U.S. rider (fifth) in the 1997 World Cup final in Gothenberg. In 1998, riding Eros, she was the first American and first woman to win the $450,000 Pulsar Crown Grand Prix in Monterrey, Mexico. In 1999, again with Eros, she won the $90,000 America vs. Europe Bohemia Challenge in Monterrey.
OLYMPIC RECORD: Alternate on gold-medal team in 1984 Los Angeles Games. Team silver and individual fourth aboard Starman at 1988 Seoul Games. Placed fourth with team on Cannonball at 1992 Barcelona Games. Team silver aboard Eros at 1996 Atlanta Games.
PERSONAL: Brother Rob is a scientist and works for NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratories and teaches at the University of Arizona. Sister Lisa Savage is married and rides and gives lessons. Father Bob is a retired music and English teacher and mother Mary Jo died several years ago. She's a spokesperson for Hermes Saddles. Her sponsorships and endorsements include Nutrena feed and Finish Line supplements.
