Pasco man arrested in Internet sex sting

By Times Staff Writer

CLEARWATER - A Pasco County man who thought he had arranged a sexual rendezvous with a 14-year-old boy on the Internet was instead met by an undercover police detective, authorities said Tuesday. At an arranged meeting Monday evening, Donald Parent Jr., 34, of New Port Richey was arrested by a detective who had posed as the 14-year-old during electronic conversations, said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor. Parent first contacted the undercover detective in a chat room Jan. 13 and later sent pornographic images, Shelor said. Parent's home was searched Tuesday, and investigators seized his computer. He has been charged with computer solicitation of a minor and transmitting material harmful to minors. He was being held in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
