Let's hear it for the shrimp
Pirates invade Fernandina Beach at the end of the month to celebrate shrimp. Really. Any excuse for a party. The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival kicks off at 6 p.m. April 28 with a parade through downtown Fernandina Beach, followed on April 29 by an evening of tours aboard the shrimper Georgia Bulldog, food and a pirate invasion at 9:30 p.m. The Tampa Gasparilla pirates take all day to invade; Fernandina expects theirs to be over in time for 9:45 fireworks. Festivities, including arts and crafts and kids' activities, continue on Saturday and Sunday with the blessing of the fleet and a decorated shrimp boat parade on the afternoon of May 1.
