Florida Sleep Institute sets seminar, open house

SPRING HILL - The Florida Sleep Institute will sponsor these events this week:
Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome Seminar, 10 a.m. Friday. The seminar is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required by Thursday.
National Sleep Awareness Week Open House, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be a one-hour discussion on sleep disorders from 10 to 11 a.m. Sleep specialists will be on hand. Activities and materials will be available, including the latest information on sleep, sleep hygiene and sleep disorders, as well as information from the National Sleep Foundation. The open house is free.
The Florida Sleep Institute is at 4075 Mariner Blvd. For information or reservations for the seminar, call 683-7885.
Ukrainian church to hold Easter brunch Sunday
SPRING HILL - St. Andrew's Ukrainian Church will host its "Swiachene" traditional Easter brunch at noon Sunday at the church, 8064 Weeping Willow St., Spring Hill (off Cortez Boulevard, between Arby's and Discount Auto).

Blue Star Highway to rock Bandshell Bash on April 9
BROOKSVILLE - Classic '60s rock band Blue Star Highway will headline the next Bandshell Bash, which will be from 4 to 8 p.m. April 9 at Hernando Park, 205 E Fort Dade Ave.
The event will open with singer Fred Campbell, whose act features Oldies rock.
There also will be the Brooksville Cruise-In antique and hot-rod car show, as well as vendors selling food, arts and crafts.
The Bandshell Bash is a free family event provided by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council and Bandshell Bash Committee.

Synd Cats to play concert April 14 in Brooksville
BROOKSVILLE - Brookridge Entertainment will present the Synd Cats in concert April 14 in the clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St., off Cortez Boulevard.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and show time will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Spring Hill Relay for Life set for April 22-23
The Spring Hill Relay for Life will be April 22-23 at Springstead High School on Mariner Boulevard.

Relay for Life is an 18-hour overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs with the American Cancer Society.
During the event, teams of people take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
Various activities and entertainment continue throughout the event.
Sweet Adelines chapter to have concert April 12
NEW PORT RICHEY - Suncoast Harmony, the Pasco/Hernando chapter of Sweet Adelines International, will have a "Friends and Family Night" at 8 p.m. April 12 at Gulf High, 5355 School Road.
The 46-member chorus will present songs that will be performed at the annual competition in Orlando on April 16.
Suncoast Harmony registered quartets will also perform.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
Suncoast Harmony is an award-winning women's chorus that performs a cappella, four-part harmony music.

American Legion post celebrates 73rd birthday
BROOKSVILLE - American Legion Post 99 invites the public to help it celebrate its 73rd birthday on April 9 at the post, 208 E Fort Dade Ave.
A roast pork dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 and must be purchased by Friday. Tickets can be purchased at the post from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday or from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays, or by calling Pat at 596-6291.
The post was originally chartered in 1919; however, the current charter was issued in 1932.
Bowling event raises money for charity
SPRING HILL - The Arc Nature Coast's 12th annual Bowl-A-Thon will be from 4 to 6 p.m. May 21 at Spring Hill Lanes on Commercial Way.
Team sponsorships are $100, which includes event T-shirts for a team of five bowlers, with the sponsor's name printed on back, and two games of bowling and shoe rental for the team. Individual and team awards will be presented after bowling. Refreshments will be provided.
Each bowler will have a pledge sheet and is asked to raise at least $20 in pledge money. A trophy will be awarded to the person and team bringing in the most pledge money.
Sponsors can assemble their own bowling team or the Arc can provide a team to be sponsored. Individual bowlers can also sign up to be placed on a team.
Funds raised will benefit the nonprofit organization, which provides support and services for Hernando County residents with developmental disabilities, and their families.

Golfers, hole sponsors sought for benefit tourney
SPRING HILL - Golfers and hole sponsors are needed for Jim Monk's sixth annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on April 9 at Oak Hills Golf Course, 10059 Northcliffe Blvd.
The cost is $50 per golfer, which includes a buffet lunch catered by Brian's Place Restaurant and Gourmet Deli. Teams and individual golfers can enter this four-person scramble tournament. Hole sponsorships are $50.
Check-in will be at 7 a.m., and a shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams, as well as for closest to the pin on par 3 holes and for the longest drive. Numerous door prizes will be given away. Autoway Ford Lincoln and Mercury has donated a 2005 Mustang to be awarded to the first hole-in-one.

All donations are tax-deductible. Proceeds will go toward scholarships for graduating Hernando County students.
