Earth Day event full of activities

The fourth annual Earth Day in the Park, sponsored by the Seminole Tree Advisory committee, will be held April 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road, Seminole.
Activities include a home and garden expo, children's arts and crafts, a bounce house, a fossil dig, garden face painting by the Uptown Clowns, the Seminole Library spelling bee, live oldies rock 'n' roll music by the Suburban White Men, free Home Depot gift card raffles, and a barbecue lunch sponsored by the Seminole High School Marching Band Boosters.
The committee also will give away plants and mulch to the first 400 attendees. The event is free and open to the public. For information, call 391-8345.
The Earth Day Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Seminole Community Library, is open to fourth- and fifth-graders. Advance registration at the library is required. For more information, call Marion or Karen at 394-6913.

The St. Petersburg College Students Art Show will be on display at the Seminole Community Library Gallery in April, Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. The library is at 9200 113th St. N. Seminole Recreation will sponsor a trip to Show Palace Dinner Theatre in Hudson to see Sugar Babies today from 10:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The cost is $55 including a buffet meal, the show and bus tip. A Tribute to Teachers Breakfast, sponsored by the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, will be April 14 at 7:30 a.m. at Seminole Middle School. The chamber will honor a representative teacher from each of 19 Seminole-area public and private schools who make outstanding contributions to children and youths. Live entertainment and presentations on teachers and schools will be featured. Ron Stone, Pinellas schools' associate superintendent for human resources and public affairs, is master of ceremonies. The breakfast costs $8 a person, plus an additional $25 to sponsor a teacher. Seminole Middle School is at 8701 131st St. N. For reservations, call the chamber office at 392-3245.

The 2005 Seminole Stampede 5K, 10K and 1-mile certified race course will be held April 16 at Walsingham Park. The preregistration deadline is Saturday. Late registration the day of the event begins at 7:20 a.m. The 1-mile run begins at 8 a.m., and the 5K and 10K runs begin at 8:20 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Seminole Chamber of Commerce. Free race T-shirts will be provided to those with race number stubs. The cost for the event is $15 for the 1-mile and $20 for the 5K and 10K events.
