Fledgling barbecue fest settles in Pinellas Park

The 2005 BBQ Fest, which lured 20,000 visitors to Brandon last year, will set up at Town Square Plaza Park this weekend.

PINELLAS PARK - Folks around the area will have a lot of activities to choose from this weekend.

Tampa has the $200,000 Budweiser American Invitational showjumping event. St. Petersburg has the Honda Grand Prix car race. Pinellas Park has the 2005 BBQ Fest and rock concert.

This is the second year for the fest, which attracted 20,000 barbecue lovers to Brandon last year. The festival was moved to Pinellas Park after organizer Frank Giglio got a look at Town Square Plaza Park, which houses the England Brothers Bandshell. Giglio has called it an "amazing, beautiful facility."

Folks who attend Saturday can get one of their chores done on the way over. The Pinellas Park Fire Department's Relay for Life team is holding a carwash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 52nd Street N and Park Boulevard. The $3 cost will go to the American Cancer Society. For information about the carwash, call Carolyn Garren at 541-0713, ext. 3912.
