Deadline to pay taxes without penalty looms

By Times Staff Writer
Published March 30, 2005

Pinellas County taxpayers have only a day left to pay property taxes for 2004 without being penalized.

Tax payments must be delivered to the tax collector's offices or drop boxes by the close of business Thursday, be postmarked no later than Thursday or be paid over the Internet before midnight Thursday to avoid a delinquency fee.

As of Friday, a 3 percent penalty will be added to the total amount of delinquent real estate taxes owed. A 1.5 percent penalty, plus other costs, will be added to the amount owed on delinquent tangible personal property taxes. More penalties will be added to unpaid accounts in May.

If 2004 real estate property taxes are still not paid by the end of May, tax certificates on that real estate could be put up for sale beginning June 1.

For more information, check or call 727 562-3262.
