Eagles hope layoff proves 'refreshing'

East Lake hasn't played since March17 against Seminole, a game it trailed 5-4 in the fourth when rain forced it to be called.
The break might have been just what East Lake needed. The Eagles, who started 9-2, were 1-3 before spring break, including losses to Countryside and Palm Harbor U.
"We weren't playing as well as we were in the beginning," coach Bryan Riley said. "I'm hoping the little break refreshed us. Obviously, we could be rusty, but I think we'll be ready."
The Eagles (10-5) travel to Clearwater for a Class 5A, District 9 softball game today.
YOUNG REBELS: With two sophomores on the mound, Dixie Hollins is going back to basics.
After losing three starting seniors, the Rebels have had an up-and-down season. With just five returning players, Dixie Hollins is 3-6 overall and 2-3 in 5A-10. The squad has struggled offensively, getting just two hits in an 8-0 loss to Northeast on Tuesday.
The Rebels, who beat Boca Ciega and Pinellas Park in district play, face Clearwater, Boca Ciega and St. Petersburg next week. "It's a rebuilding year," Rebels coach Lynn Keiser said. "We have a really good game then turn around and have an awful one. We are just not jelling as a team yet."
FARRAGUT WINS: Admiral Farragut earned its first win in three years Wednesday, beating Oldsmar Christian 23-8. Alex Emory struck out six for the Blue Jackets. Sasha Neubeuer, Carrera Blum and Crystal Collelo scored three runs.
