YMCA Healthy Kids Day encourages family fitness

TAMPA - Celebrate the 14th annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at YMCA locations throughout the Tampa area. This year's theme, "Put Play in Your Day," encourages parents and children to participate in family fitness activities.
The free event includes family fun, games for kids and healthy alternatives for families.
Healthy Kids Day is part of "Activate America," a national long-term initiative to help Americans improve their health and wellness.

Workshops seek friendlier walking, cycling in county
TAMPA - The Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization, the city of Tampa and HARTline are hosting eight half-day workshops aimed at making Hillsborough County more friendly to the walking and bicycling community.
Trainers from the National Center for Bicycling and Walking will lead tours on how to make communities more walkable and pedestrian-friendly.
The workshops will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at University Community Center, 14013 N 22nd St.; 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at Joe Abrahams Wellness Center, 5212 Interbay Blvd.; 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road; 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Tampa Union Station, 601 N Nebraska Ave.; 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Grant Park Center, 3724 N 54th St.; 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at Temple Terrace Library, 202 Bullard Parkway; 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1601 E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.; and 8 a.m. to noon Friday at Redlands Christian Migrant Association, 416 U.S. 41 S.

School choruses to join for Carrollwood SongFest
TAMPA - The choruses of Berkeley Preparatory School, Independent Day School, Citrus Park School and the Tampa Bay Children's Chorus will join for the inaugural Carrollwood SongFest at 7 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 3714 W Linebaugh Ave.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 977-5558, ext. 1, or by e-mailing tbccsings@aol.com Proceeds will benefit the Tampa Bay Children's Chorus Scholarship Program.
Jewish rock musician will offer three concerts
PARKLAND ESTATES - Innovative Jewish rock musician Rick Recht offers three concerts this weekend at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 W Swann Ave.
Recht will perform "Shabbat Alive" at 7:15 p.m. today for the synagogue's Sabbath Worship Service. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, he presents "Rick Recht Live: A Youth Concert" geared to teens and youths. At 10 a.m. Sunday, an interactive family concert will feature songs from the hit children's album Free to Be the Jew in Me.

Classes will teach music, movement activities
SOUTH WESTSHORE - Good Times/Good Tunes Music Together is holding spring classes for children and caregivers interested in learning a musical and movement approach to early childhood development.
Up to 12 children and their parents or caregivers will meet for 45 minutes each week to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions led by registered Music Together teachers.
Registration is open for classes held at 10:15 a.m. Thursdays starting next week through June 9 at Djembe Cafe, 4328 S Manhattan Ave.
The cost is $150, plus a $15 registration fee for new families, and includes 10 weeks of classes, a music CD, illustrated songbook, parent guide and Music Together newsletter.

BAYSHORE GARDENS - The Moonlight Garden Circle presents its April program at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tampa Garden Club, 2629 Bayshore Blvd. Speaker Dawn Dickens will instruct visitors on how to use microirrigation to make gardening easier.
