Voters may expel 'Idol,' but past arrest won't

Associated Press
Published April 2, 2005

Scott Savol, one of the remaining nine finalists on American Idol, once was arrested for domestic violence, but the Fox network said the arrest won't cost Savol his shot at becoming the next Idol.

Some past contestants have been booted for not disclosing arrests, but Savol was "forthcoming to the American Idol producers and the network" and "the situation did not warrant his disqualification," Fox said this week.

Ohio police documents posted on the Smoking Gun Web site said Savol, 28, had a confrontation with his son's mother, Michele Martin, in February 2001. He pleaded to a reduced misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, the Web site said.
