Cross Bayou students to return on Tuesday

Classes were moved because of protests at Hospice House Woodside, where Terri Schiavo was a patient.

LARGO - Cross Bayou Elementary principal Marcia Stone sent an automated phone message to parents late Friday afternoon informing them that the school's 600 children would continue to attend class in temporary locations on Monday.

The children will return to Cross Bayou on Tuesday, Stone said.

The school district moved the children to the Gus A. Stavros Center in Largo a week ago, citing an unstable situation at nearby Hospice House Woodside where Terri Schiavo was staying. From there, the district sent some to Walsingham Elementary and some to Southern Oak Elementary.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement gave the go-ahead for the students to go back to their school. Stone said she has confidence in its decision.

"I do not think our school police nor the superintendent would allow us to go back unless everything was perfectly safe," she said.

Teachers will begin moving back to the school on Monday afternoon.

"Everyone is just so tired," Stone said. "To orchestrate a move like that takes a bit of time. Monday will be soon enough to move us all back."
