MTV returns to Miami
By wire services
Published April 6, 2005
MTV said it was seeking to repeat the success of last year's MTV Video Music Awards show, which featured arrivals by yacht by stars such as Shaquille O'Neal and Usher, an appearance by the Kerry and Bush sisters and a tribute to Ray Charles.
"Miami radiates an energy that was clearly visible in last year's show - the arrivals by yacht, the six different stages, the countless amazing performances, and much, much more," MTV president Van Toffler said.
The show is scheduled for Aug. 28 at AmericanAirlines Arena, beside Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami. No word yet on host or performers.
Library adds to registry
WASHINGTON - Edward R. Murrow's rooftop broadcast from London during a World War II air raid, astronaut Neil Armstrong's "one small step" report from the moon and composer John Williams' musical tribute to a galaxy "far, far away" are among the latest recordings set for preservation in the Library of Congress.
The library also announced Tuesday the discovery of 55 minutes of tape made by Thelonious Monk's jazz quartet, including tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, in Carnegie Hall. The concert was not commercially recorded.
It was found by Larry Appelbaum, the library's jazz specialist and acting head of its magnetic recording lab, when he was making digital recordings of tapes recorded by the Voice of America in 1957 for broadcast abroad.
Britney to tell all
Weary of relying on tawdry people to tell their life stories, Britney Spears, 23, and husband Kevin Federline, 27, are taking matters into their own gifted hands, people.com and Variety report. The couple signed with UPN for a six-episode reality series about their incomparable lives, due to premiere before the end of May.
"From the day that Kevin and I met, there (has) been . . . inaccurate speculation about our lives," Spears said. "I am excited about showing what really happened."
"JAG' to end 10-year run
JAG, the longest-running drama series on the CBS schedule, will end its 10-season tour of duty this month.
The show, which has called CBS home for the past nine seasons after one year on NBC, will bow out April 29 with an episode that creator Don Bellisario promises will bring at least some resolution to the romantic tension between lead characters Harm (David James Elliott) and Mac (Catherine Bell).
