By Times Staff Writer
Published April 7, 2005

TAMPA - A rape survivor will share her story at a church in Temple Terrace tonight as part of this month's Sexual Assault Awareness Month events, sponsored by the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

Christine Michelle will share her story during the 3rd Annual Take Back the Night Candle Light Vigil and Speak Out, organized by the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence. Michelle is the founder of A Place for Me, a nonprofit organization that helps women in distress, free of charge.

Capt. Bob Staehle, operations commander for the University of South Florida Police Department, is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech, "Rape in America - We Are All Victims."

According to the crisis center, a sexual assault occurs every 90 seconds in the United States, and in Florida, one in nine women has been the victim of a sexual assault. April is recognized nationally as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The event begins at 7 tonight at Temple Terrace United Methodist Church at E 5030 Busch Blvd. For information, call (813) 264-9955.
