ART LEAGUE DEMO: The Citrus County Art League's demonstrating artist for April is oil painter Jean Morey. Schooled in art at the Chicago Art Institute, American Academy of Art and DePauw University, her career spans decades. Morey's demonstration will cover techniques and methods in painting with water-based oils on standard canvas. She will do portraits and painting from live models. The public can attend the demonstration in the Art and Education Center, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., at 1:30 p.m. Thursday for $3, payable at the door. GONG SHOW: Some 21 acts will take part in the second annual Citrus County Family Alzheimer's Organization Gong Show, which will also be a dinner event starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Citrus Springs Community Center, 1570 W Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs. Organizer Larry Mitchell said some of the acts will be purposefully awful, in hopes they will be "gonged" offstage. Mitchell said the show has a 4-foot gong. The event is a fundraiser for the Alzheimer's organization. Call 257-3374.

COMEDY FOR A CAUSE: Comedians Leanne Morgan, Karen Mills and Etta May, known as "Southern Fried Chicks" will perform April 21 as part of a dinner show at Black Diamond Country Club. Cocktails start at 6 p.m, dinner at 6:30 and the performance starts at 7:30. Tickets for the event are $150, which also include one raffle ticket for a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. Proceeds go to the Citrus County Boys and Girls Club and the Citrus County Education Foundation. For tickets, call Jewel Lamb at 795-1515.

RELAY FOR LIFE: The Inverness Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, will be April 15 and 16 at Citrus High School. Planning meetings take place Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Gulf Room in the Annex Building at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. ART CENTER THEATRE PLAY: The final play of the 2004-05 season, Murder Among Friends, by Bob Barry opens April 15 and run weekends until May 1 at the Art Center Theatre, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., Citrus Springs. The play is about a couple who are planning to murder each other, with comic consequences. The story reaches a high point at a fabulous New Year's Eve party. Tickets are available from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the theater box office. The play is directed by Frank Hanshaw. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. PLAYHOUSE 19: Cemetery Club, a tale of three widows, opens at Playhouse 19 Thursday and runs through May 1. The play centers around three Jewish widows, all quite different in their attitudes about life, who meet for tea once a month prior to going to the cemetery to visit the graves of their husbands. When a widower visiting his wife's grave enters the picture, romance and conflict result. Tickets are $15, available at the box office at 563-1333.

BEVERLY HILLS CHORUS: The Chorus of Beverly Hills rehearses for its spring concert at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the sanctuary of the Beverly Hills Community Church, 82 Civic Circle. Singers for all four voice parts are encouraged to join. Director is Lorraine Wilmoth, and accompanist is Renate Williams. The 30-member chorus welcomes all county residents who are eager to sing and commit to attending rehearsals regularly. A program with the theme "We Are One Family" is planned for 3 p.m. April 24. FRIENDSHIP FESTIVAL: The Crystal River Friendship Festival, a new arts and crafts festival, will be April 29 to March 1 at Crystal Isles, 11419 W Fort Island Trail, Crystal River. Call 795-3374 .

FUN AT THE PARK: The Bassmaster CastingKids Competition will begin at noon April 16 at Liberty Park in Inverness and is open for girls and boys in two age groups, 7-10 and 11-14. This free event will be conducted by the Big Sun Bassmasters Club. There are many other family activities planned for this fishing event, including extreme inflatables, music, food, truck and boat show, and a great selection of raffle items.
