Event to address need for organ donations

DOWNTOWN - The Florida Orchestra and LifeLink Legacy Fund present "A Symphony of Life" at 7 p.m. Saturday at the University of Tampa's Plant Park, 401 W Kennedy Blvd.

The free event aims to raise awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Patient Charity Care and Good Samaritan Funds.

Service program enlists more than 600 volunteers

TAMPA - Congregation Rodeph Sholom and Congregation Kol Ami sponsor a communitywide service program, "Mitzvah Day," from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. More than 600 people are scheduled to volunteer.

The day will begin with a prayer service and breakfast at Rodeph Sholom, 2713 Bayshore Blvd., and Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road. Volunteers will help at more than 25 agencies, including Achieve Tampa Bay, Alpha House, The Children's Home, Metropolitan Ministries and Ronald McDonald House.

Florida Blood Services will have bloodmobiles at both synagogues, and the synagogues will collect hair donations for Locks of Love. For information or to sign up go to www.rsholom.org/mitzvah_day/information.asp

Enjoy a Shakespeare play, food, wine at the park

ST. PETERSBURG - Join Tampa Bay Uncorked from 7 to 10 p.m. today for "Uncorking Shakespeare" at Demens Landing in St. Petersburg for American Stage's Shakespeare in the Park performance of Bomb-itty of Errors. Gallery event promises "tasteful' erotic poetry, art

NORTH HYDE PARK - Visit Look Salon and Gallery, 209 N Armenia Ave., for an evening of "tasteful" erotic spoken word, art and performance at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The April Follies, presented by Diana Browning of Poetry on the Edge and sponsored by Doug Lillico of Look, features performances by artists, dancers, musicians and poets.

Student art exhibit open through April 28 at UT

DOWNTOWN - The Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition opens today at the University of Tampa's Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, 310 N Boulevard. An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. to honor UT students and friends of the gallery and to present the 2005 Patron gift. Students with outstanding artwork in the exhibition will be awarded $3,000.

The exhibition will be on display through April 28. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For information, call 253-6217.

Business lunch today as part of Brazilian festival

DOWNTOWN - As part of the Brazil 2005 Festival, a luncheon will be held at noon today at Maestro's Restaurant at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.

"Doing Business in Brazil Luncheon" features speakers Terry McCoy, director of the Latin American Business Environment Program at University of Florida; Stan Adwell, president of ESI; and Jim Pyburn, director of trade development at the Port of Tampa.

Child abuse prevention program marks fifth year

TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation celebrate Baby Bungalow's fifth birthday from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Baby Bungalow, at 3106 W Azeele St., is an early childhood resource program of the Child Abuse Council.

Families are invited to Baby Bungalow for children's activities, cake, cotton candy and refreshments. Cost is free. Guests may donate supplies or cash for Baby Bungalow programs.
