Leaders to present business plan today

By Times Staff Writer
Published April 11, 2005

Local economic development leaders today are unveiling their road map for retaining and growing local businesses.

Sam Ellison, chairman of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Hillsborough County Commission chairman Jim Norman are among those discussing details of a new business retention program.

Other speakers include Judy Genshaft, who is chairwoman of the chamber's Committee of One Hundred and also is president of the University of South Florida.

The idea behind the program is to give more balance to the discussion of economic development, which often focuses on attracting new businesses, by creating a new initiative that helps existing companies prosper and grow.

The effort is being spearheaded by the Committee of One Hundred, which is in charge of economic development efforts for the chamber.
