Hot Ticket: Food, folks and fun

The Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show, which runs through April 24 in Brooksville, offers the perfect slice of small-town Americana. No doubt, pie-eating contests, greased pig chases and youngsters parading prized livestock make for a heartwarming experience. However, this year's fair also includes three days of Professional Cowboy Association rodeos Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a full-fledged demolition derby (April 23), a monster truck show (April 22-23) and a concert by classic Southern rockers the Marshall Tucker Band (April 24). The midway opens at 5 p.m weekdays and at noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Daily fair admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4 to 12. Kids under 3 are admitted free. There is an additional charge for the rodeo, demolition derby and monster truck show, as well as the Marshall Tucker Band concert. (352) 796-4552 or www.hernandocountyfair.com
